What we do

fit helps children and young people, aged 0-25, with additional needs and disabilities - and their families - get active, connect and have fun.

We offer accessible and inclusive fitness, clubs, leisure activities and support that break down barriers, reduce isolation and boost physical and mental well being.

Two brothers stand side by side smiling outdoors near a climbing wall and pond, dressed warmly in jackets. They appear happy and relaxed during an outdoor adventure activity.

From building confidence to nurturing friendships, fit helps families feel stronger, happier and less alone.

Our activities are divided into 4 categories:

  • “Having fun together is extremely important, especially when parents are under pressure to observe routines, attend appointments and manage their child’s medical needs. Parents told us: ‘laughing and having fun together is the most important thing’”

    - Sense Public Enquiry 2015 -

  • “f⁶it is an amazing charity that has created so many opportunities for young people and their families. It creates a safe space where everyone is welcome and given the access to do activities that wouldn’t have been available for them before”

  • "Feeling part of a club where there is no judgment from others and no pressure to do things the same as everyone else."

At fit, our focus is on FAMILY, FRIENDS and FUN

We are aware that navigating the world of disability and additional needs can put enormous strain on families.

At fit we support the whole family and help them to enjoy sport and recreational activities together
time spent together without pressure or judgement
time to connect
time to forge friendships
time to have fun

Two young boys using walking frames smile and celebrate together in a sports hall, giving each other high fives. A coach holding a football leans in encouragingly, creating a moment of teamwork and joy.

“This charity is invaluable. I have never come across any other which provides regular activities for the disabled children and also their parents, siblings and friends.”

Adults and children sit together around a long table covered with art supplies, smiling as they paint and draw. Bright pots of brushes, pencils, and paints are scattered across the table, creating a lively and creative group activity.

Getting it right for you

Families are always at the heart of what we do and our work is therefore shaped by parents, carers and young people with lived experience.

Not sure what to expect?

We understand trying new activities can feel overwhelming, especially if past experiences haven’t met your family’s accessibility and inclusion needs. Our What to Expect page explains how we make every f⁶it activity welcoming and positive.
